Yep, that's right folks. I'm going to run my first marathon! My sister, Lisa, and I will run it together (assuming we get selected in the lottery). I'm scared we will get picked... but will be disappointed if we don't. It's a strange blend of emotions.
I've wanted to run a marathon for some time. I'm not exactly sure why. In some respects, marathons are symbolic of life's pains and sorrows and endurance. It takes mental and physical and emotional strength to complete it-- it's almost as if you can endure anything if you can finish a marathon. At the very least, it will be a great bonding experience with my sister. But I think it will also be more than that for me.
So I'll keep you posted on whether or not I'm selected... I'm not sure if I should ask you to pray that I am or that I'm not....

Good luck with that (being selected as well as the race itself). Running a marathon is a very rewarding experience. I'm sure it will be a bonding experience with your sister, but you might be surprised at the camaraderie you discover with other runners you've never even met before.
I agree with David - there is a very interesting sense of family among your fellow runners. This one is probably my favorite marathon...good luck with the lottery.
How crazy, I decided to run a marathon this year too! I'm doing the Top of the Mountain marathon in Logan. Well, planning to anyway. I've been wanting to run one for a while. A few months back a guy in church gave this talk about how life is like a marathon; I forget the spiritual points because all I could think the whole time was how I really wanted to run an actual marathon. Good luck with yours, let me know if you find any good websites or books about training.
Lane...I'm so glad you feel this way! Every marathon I've ran, I've longed to have someone dear to me running with me all the way...now I finally have my wish come true! Thanks for being "crazy enough" like me, to want to do this! ha ha I know it is a spiritual thing too..everyone I work for (this will be my anniversary one...Number 10!) I feel a closeness to Father in heaven...and I rely not only on my own preparation and endurance, but I rely on Him also and pray a lot along the 26 miles...and yes, you get a sense of accomplishment as you accomplish something really hard...and it becomes fun! :) I too will be disappointed if we aren't picked! Love ya..Lis oxo
I wish I could watch you every step of the way, maybe I could ride a bike, but they probably wouldn't allow that. I'm so proud of your commitment, both of you. Good Luck, love Mom
Yeah!! I'm so excited for you--you are in for the experience of a lifetime! It is the best feeling of accomplishment and for me was so much more about the mental aspect than the physical. A great book I would recommend is "Marathon Method" by Tom Holland, I think that's his name. It was easy to read, had great advice and great training plans. Very helpful.
And I hope you are feeling better--sorry you've been so sick. No fun!
That would be WAY cool...I like how you described what a marathon means to you. I hope you get picked ;o)!
